Finally the long awaited day for my batch Btech guys was here. As they were dressed in the gowns and the mortarboards, I had to stay back and it sucked. For a moment, felt that it has been one of the worst decisions in my life to go for a dual degree course, choosing to stay here for one extra year. I didnt want to face the awesome atmosphere that was there out on the campus - slightly overcast, cool breeze, the insti flags flanged by the roads and not to forget the welcoming banners that had 'XXXVIII CONVOCATION - 2006' written over them. Frankly speaking, to think that out of the 22 wingies only 7 were passing out today, actually helped. Atleast I am not alone altogether :) Later, had lots of gossip with pals and had an outing which rocked.
Now, as I hold the yearbook of the Y2 batch, it's so hard to stop thinking about the 4 years I spent here at this beautiful place.
I will stop this here and save those memories for next year when I too will go out in the real world. For now, its better to accept the fact that I am lucky to have an extra year to celebrate before I step into that hardcore life, coz vacationing is all that we do here :-) Moreover, I now am a "paid official"! [:-P] What more could one ask for for all the fun that he has ;-)
Good Luck friends....U all shall be missed... :-)

The antibody analogy
Its almost 5 I am still trying to get a nap. Went out to have a stroll and found a fellow guy taking a break from heavy study business. As we had a little chat, he told me that he was out to console a friend who was feeling sad, angry and irritated over dunno what. Talking to him (the third guy), it was inferred that this was because of some girl he recently came in touch with. He didnt claim to be angry or annoyed over her but something was wrong.
To this the second friend proposed an analogy which I found great and am trying to present it.
Human body is a great piece of work by the nature. One aspect is the superb way it reacts against foreign particles viz antigens. Without our knowledge, whatever possible symptom the antigen may show, may it succeed in its attack, it is already taken care of. Like, high temperature is nothing but our body resisting against external viruses and bacteria capable of showing various other more serious symptoms.
Similar is the case with our mind. When one comes in touch with new people certain reactions take place in our brain. These reactions may not be observable, similar to how it is with the body (i.e., normally we dont fall ill everyday!). However, when someone feels strongly about something, the effect may be observed but might not be explainable. Like in the present case, as i mentioned, the acquaintance is not very old, so the brain shows activity to cope with the new feelings, expectations and so on.
Ofcourse, the idea might be too crude to be included in psychology text books but I surely am thinking of writing a paper with him :-). Hope it gets selected, atleast for some fun column of some local magazine. :-D

98% JUNK
Had an institute lecture on genetics organised by the BSBe (Biological Sciences and Bioengineering) department today evening. Had been idling all day so thought of attending. Read the announcement which said that they had refreshments for all the listeners of the talk but got late to enjoy it fully. Chips were almost over and hardly got hold of biscuits and a colddrink. Its fun, having a number of guest talks these days in the LHC. Skip routine lectures, attend special ones(sleep in the AC'ed halls) and for that they have refreshments arranged for you.
The lecture today reminded me of an old interest - Genetics. It could have been a better working area had I been courageous enough to study school biology which was all about cramming(now now..doctors and biologists..dont kill me for that...I surely admire you ppl..for this special ability of yours :-p 'wink').
While the prof was telling something on non coding RNA blah blah stuff, which I almost completely dodged, it was good to see that atleast the BSBe department of the insti has some nice girls. Location wise, the Bio science building is situated somewhat seperate from the main LHC so we dont often get to notice them. Plus, you need to go to the academic area (ughh) more often to increase the chances.
The lecture was interesting on the whole. Most of it I dont remember, or rather, I never paid attention to, but few things were really catchy.
It was told that 99% of the information carrying genome is common between man and a chimpanzee. However, this information carrying part forms only 2% (!!!) of the total genetic data contained in humans. Rest 98% is 'junk' or what is also characterised as SELFISH.
Now, does this not mean that the nature has wasted a lot of its effort in carrying forward information that is practically useless. I have never been a big fan of the Theory of Natural Selection but shouldn't it, being by far one of the most accepted beliefs, try to answer this. After all, why the hell am I spending an enormous proportion of my ATP for something thats not giving me anything.
Yes, he finally concluded the talk saying that it is probably THIS 'non-coding' genes that direct those 'coding' ones to develop the way they develop. In crude terms, its them(non-coding genes) who tell them(coders) which way is ones head and where are the feet. But this sounded like a stupid idea to me. (If you want to discuss the details, feel free to comment :). I dont want to get toooo boring by including why I think so. Err... ok I know I have been much already so lets get this over with).
One idea that indeed appealed is that those 98% genome might have a hand in giving redundancy to the system. I.e. even though it appears that without them things might work just fine but giving having them will increase the permormance. Just like giving 8 degrees of freedom to a manipulator that requires only 6 in 3-d space.
PS: The specialists of the field - consider me novice. All thats written above is what I felt the speaker was telling. If I have taken in some point wrong due to distractions or ignorance, please correct.

why are girls b.....s
when a girl realises that she is pretty and that others think so too..forget everything...no matter how nice and friendly u have been..now, for her, u are just another guy wanting to get a piece of her..and perhaps she prefers it this way..to have more guys following like despos...this might be an automatic defensive mechanism but the attitude sucks...how can someone with so high on ego expect and value respect from others!!...she wouldn't follow the courtesy and no trace of modesty..because, what the hell...girls just want to have fun..!
